Spot on. I guess I wasn't clear enough in my pp.

Saving the $2k for now but planning on investing. To me, that is living comfortably.

Are you saving any for retirement? We make much more than you but our net take home is $6500. The biggest withholding is our 401k Roth. We do max contribution.


Our employers each contribute 10%, we do two Roth's from that $8500/net.

Are you saving any for retirement? We make much more than you but our net take home is $6500. The biggest withholding is our 401k Roth. We do max contribution.

Us too. Mortgage is $2800 and nanny costs us $3200. $1500 is not enough to feed us and put gas in our cars and clothe us.

Out of that $2,000, she has to pay for all her miscellaneous items: clothes, haircuts, birthday gifts. No money earmarked for anything other than a need. No specific college fund. She hasn't mentioned any savings for major home repairs. Car tax? There are lots of things she didn't mention that must come out of that 2K.
