No way! I was there last night for a summer class. I love it. Green, beautiful. Easy to park during summer. Safe, clean campus. Lots of green and trees. Good new facilities. Great adjunct staff who really know there stuff.

GMU is a very nice campus with lots of green space and beautiful new buildings.

My DC will be starting his junior year there in fall. We've been very pleased with accommodations, classrooms, green areas, athletic facilities, dorms. Everything is close to the dorms. I've never had a concern about safety, either. Great theater and interior stadium.

Anonymous wrote:Agree with GW. NYU is even worse. To the person who said "urban" is much better than "nowhere U," have you heard of the following universities: Harvard, Columbia, Chicago? All three of these universities have beautiful campuses that are adjacent to, or in, thriving urban centers. You present a patently false choice between "no campus at all" and "State U." NYU and GW have no quads or student centers. For a kid whose first exposure to solo living is generally a college campus, that would suck.

You've never seen the neighborhood around U of C. The campus is beautiful. The neighborhood around it is awful and dangerous. Chicago is an awesome city, but that campus is in a bad area.

I sort of liked it, up on that hill above Providence.

Are you the Tea Party poster who was on this forum earlier today?

Serious question: why are you guys such combative jerks? In the same vein, why do you do things like bring up real estate prices and then, when someone addresses it, you claim real estate prices are irrelevant? Is there some camp somewhere, where you Tea Party guys learn how to be rude jerks on social media?

If you point out that University City is a lousy, unsafe neighborhood, it makes you a member of the Tea Party? You really are a babbling idiot.

You missed the whole point: you're a pugnacious twit.

So forget bad neighborhoods for a moment, and focus on your own bad behavior.

If you're not a Tea Partier, than I'm really sorry! I just confused you with all the pugnacious twits in the Tea Party.

Here's a tip: when you find yourself deep in a hole, stop digging. Every single thing you post makes you seem like more of a fool.

Way to prove that you're a pugnacious twit ... with a lame retort that exemplifies both "pugnacious" and "twit."

Goodbye,

PS, sorry again for confusing you with the Tea Party!

If you look at the Trulia real estate website overview for University City Philadelphia, it's no worse than Bethesda, Maryland. Much of the campus is coded "green" (low crime), with other sections "yellow" meaning there have been some thefts. No aggravated assaults, etc. So, I do think that one poster is exaggerating.

Dumb. Some of the most expensive real estate in the world on the UES is 10 minutes from Harlem, too.

The issue with Penn is the immediately surrounding area, which is awful.

Dumb? You're rude!

If you define "nice" as being expensive, then there are lots of places in Haarlem and the Bronx where you'll be deleriously happy. The rest of us probalby define "nice" as having more to do with nice trees and parks, and safety.

Your posts make no sense. Penn is in a bad neighborhood that is not particularly safe. NYU and Columbia are in much safer areas, and Columbia is a block away from Riverside Park.

Huh? Real estate is expensive EVERYWHERE in Manhattan/the Boroughs. That doesn't speak to safety or beauty. And Riverside Park certainly has its share of vagrants.

But fine, you want to think that high property prices must mean that absolutely anywhere in NYC must be Heaven on Earth. That's your choice, and nobody is going to stand in your way.

You might as well stop sputtering. The University City area is crappy; Greenwich Village and Morningside Heights are not. Whether Harlem is expensive or East New York is unsafe is irrelevant.

The purpose of education is . . . Education. It's not that complex folks.

Since you are so....educated...you must know that everyone has different priorities/interests. Some people do appreciate an attractive campus.

Which is just fine - but realize you have to pay for it. If you are taking out $30K in loans per year for the privelege of a pretty campus and spa-like dorms, you're not very smart, are you? If you're getting a full-ride, have an awesome time!
