The arrogance, orientation, skin color etc. will all wash away, because people will realize they can either get someone who is willing to learn the nuance of issues and be problem solver or they can get someone whose strings are clearing being pulled.
Muriel is going to have to stand up and show voters something or else step aside. Catania has serious flaws, but I don't see Grey voters (of which I was one) supporting Muriel. If Catania can continue to grow a base and keep people energized, he can win this.

However, there is definitely a group of WHITE voters who believe its wrong to vote for a white candidate in DC. There was actually an article in the Post about this before the primary. Will try to find it. I guess its a white guilt about gentrifcation etc, I think its really dumb to not vote for a white guy becuase you feel guilty about your own race. ... Im white, a gentrifier and a die hard liberal and I planning to vote for Cantania. I think most people actually try to learn about the key issues and then make a decision.

This is me, though I'll probably vote for him because Bowser's unwillingness to engage is truly disturbing.
But there's no way to separate the race/class issue from this race. His only hope of winning is convincing voters EOTR that he's planning to do just as much for him. If white voters in upper NW want that to happen, you need to make room for concerns beyond your own and tamp out any reference (or inference) to the changed demographics of this city being the deciding factor.
Bingo!

That is how Marion Barry consistently wins, when whites go on record that anyone who votes for so and so is an idiot. Then the idiot voters come out in masses. So to guarantee Bowser as Mayor the whites will have to insult the idiots. Just wait and see...the live mic will be the down fall of the candidate.
