I live in Frederick, and work in Bethesda, and it's so true.

Some Frederick kids go to Hagerstown to take their driving tests, they've said the slotted times don't seem to fill up as quickly.

It's because Beltsville has a lot of recent immigrants taking the test there. They can't drive worth a crap and haven't been required to take drivers education thus they have not been taught the little things that help teenagers pass the test.


A friend took the test there recently. He noticed that most of the cars taking the test were using driving school cars. I bet the fail rate is so high due to the lack of practice (don't own a car)

Wrong. DC changed its law about six months ago. They now honor learners permits from all 50 states.

Just an FYI - MD permits are not legal to drive in the District. We had been letting our son drive in DC on weekends or evenings when we were there so he would have some city experience before he gets his license and when I mentioned it to the Drive Smart guy he said "oh not legal" and he was right. Seems stupid to me because then they have suburban kids driving with a MD license who may have never driven in an urban environment. Anyway, FYI.
