I have half a dozen pair at home--ranging from my first pair bought in 1989 to a pair I bought in Portland, OR about 2 years ago. But I never wear them at work. I am in a DC office environment. Technically "business casual" but on most days, most inhabitants are definitely "less" than business casual. For example, some have worn jeans (or cords in the winter). But certainly not ripped jeans. No leggings. No t-shirts. There's a woman here who constantly wears dresses or skirts with her docs. She's late 40s. And I think she looks out of place. And it feels weird b/c I love the docs. But I definitely have a strong reaction to seeing them at work. Now, if we were artists, or something, that would be different. But non-profit lawyers? eh....
I have the flora chelsea boot and will wear them with a suit or pants and blazer. Personally, I wouldn't wear docs with dresses, but I think there are some styles that will definitely work in a business casual office"
