Subject: If you are a physician and married to a non-physician....
OP,
As a Dr. you see life and death scenarios played out everyday at your work. And while it changes your perspective, it does not change the perspective of those around you, who do not have a similar daily experience.
People who have terminal diseases always say to enjoy everyday as if it is your last day. Yet, for me - the best way to spend a day would be away from everybody, spending it in my PJ in bed!
You just need to understand this. You have nailed one aspect of life - of knowing what is important, NOW, nail the other aspect of life - knowing that people live mundane lives and have mundane concerns.

The anger directed at you doctor is because you appear to be viewing your work differently than the nurses, EMTs, and social workers who surround you every day. Do you think police and fire fighters have a walk in the park? Maybe the therapist with a case load heavy with PTSD/borderline personality patients? Prison guards? Air traffic controllers? How about the salesman who has to meet quota to make enough to pay the bills? See where I'm going here?
Again- you're incapable of sympathy for your wife but seem to be insisting that we give it to you. It doesn't matter that you're a doctor because you're a hypocrite and an asshole.
I would be sympathetic to my wife if I had one. Your argument would be valid if it actually applied to me. My DH is none if the above, he's an awesome guy who is funny and smart and is lucky enough to software test video games for a living.
Hate all you want, I will be here when you need me. In the meantime get some help, it must be hell to go thru life angry over trivial matters.
