I don't like fiction. There are only a few exceptions.

I read nonfiction, mostly stuff others would find boring.

It's not boring if you fish! My kids and I read that short story together when they were something like 10 and 12 - and they really got into it. They are fairly avid fisherman .

Old Man and the Sea is only about fishing in the way that Leaves of Grass is only about grass.

yes, there is a deeper meaning. Being a fisherman helps you to get into the story..

Sometimes I feel like scholars look for deeper meaning in stuff when there isn't any. Maybe it really was just a book about fishing and crappy luck.

Anna Karenina. So many pages about farming. I forced myself to read the entire thing, and am still annoyed my close friend recommended it. I also agree about poetry. Don't enjoy it.
