I can't stand made up grandma names. My one grandma wanted to be called "Gaga" and all my cousins called her that. I refused as a 2 year old and have called her "grandma" ever since. I giggle every time my 30 year old cousins say "Gaga".

These are just grandmas that don't want to be called "grandma." Vain and weird. Maybe I will get it someday, but now it is just vain and weird.

Honestly, it doesn't matter whether your SIL is being a controlling bitch or your MIL is a diva or who's right or wrong. This is 100 percent between your SIL and your MIL. STAY OUT OF IT. Do not feed any drama. This is not your fight, it doesn't matter to you, your kid will not be confused. Stay out of it.

No big deal and not disrespectful to your MIL. My kids call my mom one name (cute made-up name), and my sister's kids call my mom another name (Grandma Lastname). For 25 years of this, no child has been confused and no tears have been shed. It's all good.

OP, it's not your business what names anyone else in the family uses for grandparents. Your only business is what your child does.

It's not uncommon for grandkids to call grandparents by different names. We're not a homogeneous country. My parents have five grandchildren, spaced out over many years. My mother goes by four different grandma names.

Not your business. Let your MIL handle this herself.

I've let people pick their own titles except for grandma's boyfriend who wanted to be called grandpa. My DD already has a grandpa so bf gets Mr. First name.

So OP I could be your SIL. My nephew gave MIL her nickname and it is horrible. MY SIL (MIL's daughter) had 3 more kids before we had our first child and they all use the name.

The name is terrible. My husband and I were in agreement that if we ever had children they would never use that name. We find the name offensive and would be embarrassed if our children used it. Guess what they call her? Grandma first name.

Even if SIL picked it, it would still be between my MIL and my husband and I. We even share another MIL (husband's step mom) and our kids have a nickname for her that she wanted and my SIL's kids call her by her first name. It's fine.

I think grandma/grandpa names thought up by adults are weird, but then all the grandparents in my life went by "Grandma/Grandpa Name."

MIL will leave her millions to your child and not your SIL.

It will all work out in the end.
