Not OP, but I do feel that for students who are not Jewish, attending a school where there are many Jewish students can make dating difficult. Even today, many Jewish parents want their children to marry Jews, which can make things rather unpleasant.
So which schools have a significant clannish Jewish vibe?

Yes, it may be preppy, but WASP stands for white Anglo-Saxon PROTESTANT. Which means that it does not include Catholics. Sorry!
Irish Catholics are WASP-wannabes. Since most WASPs have become very non-religious, the term WASP is becoming synonymous with "uber preppy" and elitist. Generally old money, which now encompasses some Jewish families as well. If you live in Chevy Chase village you are probably WASPY regardless of where you go to church or temple.
Sorry, Jews are never welcome to WASP world. I say this as a Jew who grew up and lives in that world, attended NCS, by all outward appearances was no different than my classmates. Yet I wasn't invited to events my WASP classmates were and was never truly accepted into their definition of elite. And I think the same is true today.
As for Irish Catholics, it wasn't long ago that they were prevents from buying homes in certain DC neighborhoods just like the Jews and Blacks. This was in my lifetime. And frankly the irish Catholics I now have a rich enough culture of their own that they aren't there being wannabe anythings.
As for "very non religious" most WASPs I know attend church.
This must have more to do with YOU than the fact that you are Jewish. I know for a fact that religion is essentially a non-factor at the top secular private schools and I have a hard time believing that NCS is THAT far behind the times.
Nope, sorry. As a WASP I can assure you that all they said is true. There is a hierarchy in WASP world and Protestants, particularly Episcopalians and then Presbyterians, will always be at the top. There are still enough left in the Chevy Chase neighborhood, NCS, Chevy Chase Club circuit where people still dont have to open up. Of course, its not the same as it was- Catholics are included, Jewish people, and yes, racial minorities- but they will just never be accepted into the inner circle. It's sad but thats how it is.
Also a true WASP is generally somewhat religiously averse and doesnt enjoy the piousness of catholics.
Very Paul Fussell circa 1983. Not too relevant today if you're under 65.
At least the WASPs left behind their old homes in Chevy Chase for the Jews, Catholics and others to enjoy. It's like raffling off "old money" tickets to the highest bidders.

Short of Brandeis, what school is the PP talking about?

Anonymous wrote:I'm the Jewish voice above. My point was aimed at the comment above mine. To put it bluntly, the idea that Jewish families can be wasps or perceived as wasps isPretty absurd. If a Jew wrote it, I'm embarrassed for them. I love being Jewish and I love my Waspy in laws and their friends. I'm not worried or concerned about "feeling welcome" in Chevy chase village. I cringe at the idea that wealthy Jews somehow are giving up their identity and heritage because they live in Chevy chase village

hahahaha. My WASPY relatives, their friends, their neighbors, their country club pals, are all aware that I'm a Jew. I'm not saying that they hold it against me. But they do not think I am one of them and neither do I. I love some of them and some of them love me but, nope, I don't consider myself a WASP and they don't consider me one either. And I live in Chevy Chase village.

So, prior to your Day of Atonement and Repentance you decide to revive this thread and bitch about not being one of the WASPs?
