OK, so it is your contention that the thousands of moms and dads out there who we see calling their sons "bud" or "buddy" are all doing so because the child is a jr.? I am impressed that you know this little factoid and even had a personal law school classmate who applied to, but seriously, that is just absurd. These people are calling their sons "bud" as a term of endearment. These same folks use alternate terms like "sweetie" for their daughters. I personally know several people who call their sons "bud" and I know for certain that the kids are not jrs.
