Not sure why you are reviving a thread that's been dormant for over a year, but McLean has higher SAT scores than George Mason and more extra-curriculars. They are both 9s on Great Schools.

Hi, OP. This is a friendly service reminder that not everyone in Arlington, McLean or Falls Church is obsessed about schools as these last few posters. Generally, you would find very good schools anywhere in North Arlington, McLean or West Falls Church/22043, which you probably suspected already, no matter how young your children are. So I'd tend to focus more on other factors that might be relevant to you, such as affordability, space, charm, walkability and proximity to Metro, and then factor into schools later to break any ties.
With a budget of up to $1.5 million, you'll have plenty of options, although you might have a hard time finding new SFH construction in McLean or North Arlington at that price point. But you can certainly find some older homes, and some might actually be more appealing to you than the newer homes being built in these areas. I'm in McLean, but if my budget were below $1.5 and I wanted new construction, I would also look at Falls Church/22043, whether in the McLean or the Marshall HS districts, and Falls Church City/22046. There will be a "best" house for you, but no one else on this forum can presume to know your tastes and trade-offs better than you do. Good luck.

Again, as someone that can afford a $1.5-2 mill home, I would never consider living in Falls Church and sending my kids to Marshall. I'd choose Yorktown 10 out of 10 times. As for the choice between McLean and Yorktown, I'd give the favor slightly to McLean but it would come down to the housing stock in each neighborhood I was considering. In other words, the school wouldn't make my decision.
You obviously have some other outdated bias how old are you?

Please. I assure you, no one seriously considering a $1.5 million home in McLean is also considering the Marshall area. However, many do consider the Country Club Hills area right across the border in North Arlington. So Yorktown doesn't have trouble attracting folks, despite its purportedly horrible scores.

But in general, walkability isn't as big a part of the McLean lexicon as it is in Arlingon. Instead, people focus on the overall convenience of living in McLean and the fact that it's a short drive to a lot of different places and less congested than many other parts of the DC region.
I think this is an important point to consider for OP. McLean is nice, but not walkable. Compare that with Lyon Village, make your choice.
