Another LL Bean family here! Bought DS his first one for pre-k and he's now a rising 3rd grader. Buying him another LL Bean but bigger this time.

His bag was blue with orange sharks - never saw anyone else with it. He is NOT gentle with it and I've been able to throw it in the wash and have it come out just fine. Seriously great bag!

Jansport. I have the jansport I used in high school (I'm 44) and it's in really good condition. My kids have had their Jansport big student bags for 3 years now. They can be washed. They look like new and they last forever. DS had a Lands End that fell apart before it was a year old. We have not tried other brands since LE since the Jansport has been so great.

We've had pottery barn that held up from kinder through 2nd grade. Then both made travel soccer and we had to switch to those. Still use the pottery barn for camps.

LL Bean. Wash in cold water but had to replace because the junior was too small for 3rd grade and beyond. Still use smaller for camp, etc.

Curious, when are you buying that you get them for $15? I've seen them for $30 and up. Even during back to school last year I never saw them that low. Which brand are you buying? Are your kids able to fit books, lunch, boots, snow gear etc... into it and not have it rip open? I'm not being snarky. I'm curious. My kids take lunch daily with nice sized lunchboxes that take up a lot of space. Plus cubbies at my DD's school are smallllllllllll and shared with another student. She has to be able to keep her stuff in her backpack or it all gets mixed together and lost immediately.


I just throw the kids' backpacks in a gentle wash cycle now and then. A little oxyclean additive and they come out looking truly great. Going on year 3 with the Lands End backpack, and it happens to be my favorite one, too--it's gone to school, hiking, camping, tooling around town, to sleepovers, on raft trips, you name it. The pouches and loops and elastic bunjie cords are great for holding and attaching all kinds of stuff.
