Not OP, but this irks me. I'm the blonde but not overweight wife of a black man, and I think people literally expect me to have five chins and be living in a trailer park. Such a gross and unfair stereotype.

If you're at the home of your in-laws and they serve chicken do you feel weird asking for white meat? I still enjoy a very strong, loving relationship with the AA community. It will always be a part of who I am and my DW is very much a part of that bond.

From my perspective, people age differently. When I'm up in age, I don't care what I (or DW looks like), I only hope to be able to see her, hear her, hold her hand, and lay next to her.
