Did most of the kids elect to go to Mosby Woods? I thought Oakton usually kept alot of their kids?

Could we get back to the original thread? Are there other parents who have rising 3rd grade Oakton AAP students out there? How many are there? I'm still wondering whether the Local Level IV 3rd grade class will be stocked primarily with principal-placed students. Not that it matters in the long run, just wondering.

Louise Archer is a really good center school for AAP children. Friendly staff and parents + really nice/smart kids.

Mosby Woods is pretty overcrowded and I doubt they would take siblings. Most overcrowded schools don't.

Perhaps could pupil place for siblings, if school is not overcrowded? At least according to Dashboard Mosby Woods is not as overcrowded as many AAP centers.

They most likely will not grandfather siblings.

Does anyone know whether younger siblings, if found eligible for AAP would be "grandfathered" in to a center where their older sibling attends? Our center now is Mosby Woods, but I understand there is a proposal to move Fairfax City students to Willow Springs in 2014-15. My concern is having my children at 2 different centers and Willow Springs is not exactly around the corner.

Good info, thanks. Like you, we like Oakton and will stay with it for 3rd grade. Hope others do the same!

For what it's worth, PP, I emailed the principal at Sunrise (Dr. English) about that very point, and she said that if my child goes to Sunrise next year, he will "grandfather" in and would not have to switch to Mosby Woods. If, however, my child goes to OES Local Level next year, and then wants to switch in to the Center in a later grade, he would most likely have to go to Mosby Woods. In any event, we have decided to stay at Oakton. Really happy with the administration and from the looks of the orientation, they should have enough center-eligible second graders to compose most of the AAP class.

We are keeping our 2nd grader at OES.

Considered the fact that the center school will likely change from Sunrise to Mosby Woods next year.

Wouldn't it have made more sense for the school board to have bought up land for high schools when it was still farmland? The Fairfax boundaries haven't changed.

And yet there are very few high schools out past Oakton and some of the ones that are built out there are HUGE!
