Why are people still discussing this? The prom in question was two months ago.

My daughter is only 6, but looking ahead, I'd be THRILLED if this is the dress she chooses for her prom. There are SO many more cheesy, slutty options nowadays. This one looks age appropriate and fun. Not tight, no slits up the side or low neckline. Count your blessings!

That's a pretty dress. Stop trying to control your daughter OP.

OP here just checking in again. As mentioned I bought the dress and it's supposed to be delivered today. I let my DD know and told her I was excited to have her try it on.

So, although the dress isn't my choice for her, I've let that go and am focusing on the fact that it's *her* choice for her.

I plan to have absolutely no say in the shoes phase of this adventure and know that whatever she picks within budget is what she wants and that's that.

+1000. I'd pick her dress over yours for a teen or an adult. I think she can wear her choice again as an adult. Yours I'm not so sure.

If cost is an issue, you can tell her that you simply cannot afford this particular gown.

From what you stated, it seems like the biggest issue for you is the way it looks vs. the price tag.

Remember: It is HER special night. Even if you disagree w/her dress choice, it is HER prom. She has the right to wear something that she likes...that makes her feel pretty and special and if this dress does all of this, then let her buy it.
Keep your lips sealed and do not say anything negative when she wears it.
Doing so will only create a bad prom memory and deter from her happiness on this milestone evening.

Smile, let her know she looks lovely + tell her how proud you are of her. Don't forget to take lots of pictures too.

OP, as a mother myself I understand how tough it can be when our children make choices that do not rest well w/us.
She is growing up and has a right to assert some type of independence.

I hope things work out for you both.
