China Villiage on Bethesda ave? Anyone remember that gem of MSG and poo poo platters?

Shanghai Village, further west on Bethesda Avenue, is the same owner, menu, everything.

And whomever mentioned Houston's in Bethesda: Woodmont Grill is almost exactly the same.

Quigley's on New Mexico and Maggie's in Tenleytown (yes I went to AU)

Ha! Quigley's is a stretch as a restaurant. I thought one of the reasons they closed is that they sold too much beer in the food to beer ratio. Something about licensing bars vs. restaurants.

The fact that San Marco closed, while Pasta Mia is still around is all the evidence one needs that there is no benevolent God.

hey Pasta mia was/is way better than San Marco!!! real Italian food. San Marco the owner was Italian too but he did not do the cooking.

I suppose if "Spagetti with Spagetti Sauce" is your idea of "real Italian food" then you're spot-on. Sure, San Marco had dishes like Pappardelle al Cinghiale, with actual house-made pappardelle, and was as cheap or cheaper than Past Mia. But on the other hand, Pasta Mia always had (has?) a line going around the block--like Georgetown Cupcakes! And we know how much people like to think they're participating in a cultural phenomenon...

(The chef at San Marco was brought over from Florence, btw.)
