I like Diane Rehm for the very reasons you dislike her. I love that a person with a speaking disability is on the radio! Yea! And I love her quaintness. I feel transported to a different era when listening to her. It's a break from dismal reality.
Yes, and I cringe when I see even public radio trying to attract younger audiences simply by exchanging anchors for "personalities." Case in point -- I will never understand why NPR dumped Bob Edwards in favor Steve Inskeep. The latter is ok, but still has the on-air manner of a Top 40 DJ.

He's got personality and a great voice, but I don't think he or his staff does its homework, by doing real reporting and rigorously sourcing statements presented as "fact." Several times, they've seemed to take items off of blogs like Greater Greater Washington (which in turn links to City Paper, which links to some other list serv), and offer them as reported facts. I stopped my annual giving to WAMU as a result.

One pet peeve for me is in the morning, they never identify the city as "Washington" anymore. It's "Downtown DeeCee," DeeCee this and DeeCee that. I even heard them say "when Congress meets again in Deecee,' when the name of the federal capital is not "DeeCee." In the afternoon, it's different, a smattering of "Nation's Capital," "Washington" and "DC" when referrring to our local ("Dysfunctional City") government,.

I do like Kojo though. Interesting topics, IMO and I like Tech Tuesdays.
Kojo is good. Derek Mcginty was excellent. He seems to have faded after leaving his show for TV.
