This happened to our neighbors a couple of years ago and they appealed, won, and both went. The twin who was originally accepted, hated the program and wanted to return to our neighborhood school and the twin originally rejected LOVED the program. They ended up staying (and the first twin ending up liking it much better in 5th grade); second twin is now at middle school magnet and first twin is at our local middle school (even though she too was accepted at both Eastern and Takoma Park). So in answer to your question, I'd do whatever I thought was best for "each twin" rather the "the twins."

Thank you to the recent pp's. You have helped me feel better about the move. It is the right decision, but a hard one to make nonetheless.

I agree with PP. These two years at HGC is priceless. They will thrive whichever middle school they go.

My DD is a 5th grade center student. She will return to our home MS (magnets are just too far away for us to consider). She has maintained her friendships with kids who stayed at our home school and I am not really concerned about the move back. I am hoping she will make her own challenges if needed. There are so many things going on with kids in the MS years that if the academics are a bit lower key, I am not concerned. The two center years have been good for her.

Just don't get stuck,move her to the Center, and be positive. In 2 years things can change. Teach your DD how to deal with adjustments. Not everything should be known upfront. The future is unpredictable and that's the beauty of life.

I have some concerns about moving my DD to the center (although I am convinced that is a good place for her) and THEN moving her back to middle school. This is particularly a concern b/c her center school doesn't feed into her middle school. Does anyone have experience with this path that you could share?

The same thing I did w siblings. The one who was admitted went. The other did not.

Why would you sacrifice one twin's opportunity for the other twin, or for your own issues?

spoke with someone who had one twin at the center and one not. She said it worked out well, though she worried at first and had wanted both to get in. The one who didn't go to the center enjoyed being at the top of her class and doing well. The other fit in well at the center.

Most definitely!! People tend to stereotype kids at HGC/magnet as nerds, but not true at all. Many kids have multiple talents and engage in a variety of after-school activities, martial arts, soccer, swimming, music instruments, etc.

It is a diverse group of kids in every way. so yes he will find other athletic types and if he has good time management skills, he should have enough time to pursue his athletic interests outside school hours. PE is just once a week.

Are there many athletic type kids who go to the HGC. We are new to MoCO (coming from a private school and don't know the social dynamics well). We have a physical boy and want to know if he will find peers in this environment. Thank you.

Have had two kids at CC HGC (one there now) and neither one had problems with homework loads, although we had heard that it had been an issue in the past.
