Uhm, no.

Get your own job. Really. You people are worse than the military wives of the 1950s that wore their husbands' rank.

Oh, stop, really. You are like a broken record. My mother was a WAC in the 50's and she had to leave when she got pregnant. She loved being a mom and raised three wonderful women. She and Dad have been married for sixty years now and it was always their money, not his. WE killed it, baby!

*puke* Does his paycheck have your name on it? Didn't think so.

It is direct deposited into OUR account. There, there, maybe you should lie down.

NP here - You're so pathetic. The second part of your comment doesn't even make sense. Great, your husband is rich. Seriously, what's your point?

You should ask him, as he is the one doing the work to make this money. We won't really have a clue.

There are no year end bonuses or distributions at his firm. That's what he made in Feb. There seem to be a handful of others on this thread. I have no idea whether it is an emerging trend or an outlier. It has been trending quite high as of late, but this was close to double the avg. month. Would be awesome of it keeps up, we'll have to see. He works his ass off though.

This is an example of why people dislike lawyers so much.

Wait - are you seriously thinking he will get that every month to get to $2.3 million? Sounds like a year end distribution/ bonus. Some firms will pay 20-40% of total comp in the final distribution. I've gotten $150k distributions when the total is only $500k. Don't be spending that quite yet.

well damn!!! that is a hefty chunk. wonder what I would do with that sudden windfall. is this in addition to his normal salary, or does he take a smaller salary knowing that he gets payouts like this? Im so ignorant when it comes to biglaw money.

Anonymous wrote:Really depends how the firm does comp. typically draws are level each month. Distributions are more variable and often done at quarterly tax time. Those depend on available cash. The biggest distribution will be after the end of the year when hold backs are distributed. Also can depend how much cash the firm collects in december as opposed to the rest of the year.

The size of the distribution will depend on your/your DHs share of firm profits and the profitability of the firm. So hard to say if it is an anomaly without knowing all those variables.

Firms draw is definitely not close to level every month. There is an automatic dispertion and then the draw can fluctuate wildly to the tune of more than $100K. This draw was the biggest I've seen and I'm wondering if it's a sign of more to come or the december artifact you mentioned, however I don't think they handle december differently as it has never happened in a previous January.

You might be confusing draws and distributions. Not sure what a dispertion is.

Probably best to actually ask your DH or read the partnership agreement.

Are partner agreements even for public consumption? Spouse, girlfriend, mother, accountant? Is this allowed? If so, why haven't people posted them (or their details) on the Internet?

Spouses should read them just to see what you are on the hook for (especially with regard to capital contributions, liabilities, etc.). They are generally boring documents - no salacious details in them. They cover voting rights, retirement ages, governance structure, capital requirements, etc.
