My son got 130 on the NNAT, and 95% on CogAT. July birthday (young).

Excellent question. My DS is a September kid. Got 142 in NNAT last year (99%) and 84% in CogAT this year.

Is that 89% for Fairfax County? And your DC is in pool based on NNAT? (Still learning here.)

Our elementary school does a fabulous job teaching math. The pace of study often surprises us. The Kumon is an ENRICHMENT. It has not taught my DC any new concept, but repeat the calculations over and over to make it faster and more accurate. In school, my DC is working on 4th grade math. In Kumon, second grade since DC just started 4 weeks ago. Now working on only two digit regrouping, which my DC learned in first grade in elementary school.

I am sure parent modesty had something to do with the difference between expectations and scores. Our kids will all surprise us now and then when we don't let our mom goggles get the better of us.

There are a number of academic and extracurricular activities that are not handled by the school, but are promoted and administered by third parties. Chess Club, the foreign language enrichment classes, etc. Not sure why it is an issue. Just an avenue for extra academic work outside the school.
