I am a parent in DC schools, and I am smart enough to know when adult language is appropriate and when it is not. When someone is as stupid, arrogant and entitled as you, I think it is totally appropriate. Call names all you want, but you and your uninformed, ignorant opinions are in the vast minority here. Thank you for pointing this out. Payment, or non-payment, of taxes has nothing to do with whether a person's kids are entitled to attend a specific public school. You are entitled to attend the public school where you reside. Period.

I can't speak for any other schools, but I know that a if a family moves out of DC at our highly sought-after charter school, they will not be permitted to attend anymore, even if they offer to pay tuition. And they sure won't be permitted to retain a spot from year to year.

No, that's incorrect, it's not about withdrawing whatever you want, at any age and nobody even remotely suggested anything like that - it's about getting the SAME benefit back that others get.

I don't advocate making up one's own rules, but I have no problem with pointing out the disparity created by the rules, that many of the people paying for the benefit are being denied said benefit. For all the breathless talk about haves and have nots, it's property owners who end up treated as second class citizens by the rules.

To turn the question on its' head, maybe they should get a reduction on their property taxes, since they are being denied the benefits they pay for.

Actually, the correct analogy would be if you decided that because you had paid into Social Security that you should just be entitled to withdraw whatever you wanted from it, at any age. You do not get to make up new rules because you feel entitled to do so.

The Virginia college and University system asks a lot more than a beach house in VA beach. They are well aware of the games that are played. Just because we own a small house in Nellysford, VA, does not mean that our son can apply to UVA from Nellysford, VA (he would be a far more attractive candidate coming from Nellysford, VA than McLean, VA). We would have had to do at least an entire year's worth of school out of the second house there for the Virginia system to even think it credible. As it was, when we applied to UVA and others, we had to provide our address, no. of years in residence, and the precise date we had moved into the McLean house more than 20 years ago.

My experience with DCPS is limited to a single elementary school, but our grades come home with our child in an envelope inside her backpack. We get very limited mail from the school. I am not advocating cheating, just trying to be accurate about DC process.



Kids' grades (at least on the high school level) and many other important papers come to the parents via mail in FCPS.
