Wow, I posted in here this morning about my grandmother clearing guns out of the house. Looks like we're going through the predictable stages - shock, grief, anger, acceptance. Hope we don't get to "acceptance," but the thread is moving there. Wake up, like grandmother did, clean house and God bless the children.

What are you basing this on? The fact that she is divorced?

And for the poster who ranted about raising "losers" -- this guy is MENTAL. Do you understand? He is deranged, psychotic, mentally ill -- not a "loser."

I agree with the OP and in large part blame the mother. What kind of person who has a mentally unstable son keeps guns in the house and takes her mentally unstable son to the gun range?

Sounds like the mother was also, mentally instable and unable to handle marriage.

Did you hear the story of the man who thought his wife was suicidal and took his guns to the police and asked them to keep it for him. They did
The wife went to police station and got the gun back and shot herself

This is a childish thing for me to say, but I will say it anyway:

Try telling that to the parents of a murdered 5 year old.

Concerned.. but since he was an adult he would make his own decisions.

She possibly wasn't a teacher, so didn't have the benefits some are assuming she had.

FACTS -- WE DON'T HAVE THEM!

Apparently the mother was getting 10,000+ in alimony per month from the father since they divorced in 2009, with an agreement to continue until 2023. HAve you seen the picture of their house (where mother and Adam lived?) I dont think she lacked any resources or benefits. Other reports confirmed that she took her sons target shooting and was a gun collector. IT's a sick world where moms initiate their sons in this kind of "hobby". I feel disgusted.

If it makes you feel better to blame her, then go right ahead. I blame society, the media and permissive parenting. Plus the culture of not watching out for out kids and what they are into. Spoiling our children, making life too easy for them, and in general raising losers.

You have made assumptions but you have not made your case!

why were they even in the home??? If I had a mentally ill child there would not be guns in the home period--regardless of locks, bars, safes, etc.
I would FIND ANOTHER HOBBY as would any rational and competent parent.

Even better, she could have kept the hobby and still safeguarded herself and her son by storing her weapons at the range she frequented.

He seemed very defensive and hostile. Now he can sue CNN etc... for blaming him.

The older brother was seeing news reports identifying him as a mass murderer. Any sane person would be "defensive" under those circumstances. Not to mention that he had to have been putting two and two together and realizing that his own mother had been murdered by his brother.

Have some decency and compassion for a man whose life has been destroyed.

If he was not able to get a firearm he would have built a bomb or used a knife (see the incident that just happened in China). Anyone else notice that all the mass shootings take place in "gun free zones"? Gee I wonder why???

Firearms are used much, much more often to protect people than they are ever used to kill the innocent. Often without a shot being fired. In addition, studies have shown that the ONLY thing that has shown to be effective in deterring and preventing this many people from being shot is the presence of an armed intervention (be it police or a citizen) and that concealed carry laws have been effective in bringing down crime rates.

As for the Second Amendment, read Federalist paper #29 for an education.

If he used a knife-- not as many people would be killed.. U can run from a knife...it takes longer..

Assault weapons mow people down and kill in MUCH greater numbers.

Societies with strict gun laws don't see this type of violence.

Get fucking real.

Agreed. There ate very few if any fatalities in China, dipshit. Knives and guns are apples and oranges.

This thread would make sense if she were alive.
She's dead.
Plus, we do not know the facts.

How was Aurora preventable? His parents lived in California. His therapist expressed concerned to the school, but they couldn't monitor him 24/7.

I would love to find ways to prevent these massacres, but I'm not finding anything constructive in the suggestion that we hold parents accountable. This happened around Columbine. Until parents can read their children's minds, they are at a disadvantage.

By banning assault weapons after the Gabrielle Giffords shooting?

Right which is why we should make possession of such guns ILLEGAL.

This is prosecutor. My opinion is that SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD GUNS IN HER HOME. Mentally ill people and weapons are not a good combination.Sure he may have held a knife to her throat but if she didn't have the guns in the first place, then he would have had no reason to threaten her life so that she would give him the guns.

Anonymous wrote:Did you see his eyes in the police photo? Just like the eyes of the movie theater shooter. Just like the eyes of the gabby giffords shooter. If you research these incidents, its clear that young adult men suffering from mental health issues tend to commit these acts. This kid was not right...clearly there was something wrong with him (regardless of whether he had a formal diagnosis). We don't need to wait for an investigation to determine that he had mental health issues. Even the most violent thug wouldn't massacre young children....that's what crazy people do. We have acts of gun violence where one or two people are shot nearly every day in communities across the country...those are typically acts of violence. These kinds of massacres are prompted by some sort of mental break. Rational, violent people shoot one person at a time (read the crime reports in dc). Crazy people go on shooting sprees and take out whoever they can.

Demonic possession or oppression...
