Subject: How many times per day do you run your dishwasher?
Family of 2 every 2-3 days.
However when I add another adult, like when one of my parent's or siblings visits, it tends to be once a day or at least once every other day.
More than once a day seems nuts if you are not entertaining.

So non garbage dishwasher u basically pre-wash?
Most people pre-wash. So does that still save water vs hand washing?

We have a Bosch dishwasher, but run into problems fitting everything in (we use non-uniform size/shape dishes and plates and cups), and we don't prewash and end up with dirty dishes.
We use 7th generation dishwasher pellets, perhaps these are too weak?
Do most people pre-wash their dishes (ie no visible food on plates just not scrubbed clean?). DW claims that is how you have to do it, but then I wonder what is the point of a dishwasher!!!
There are different type of dishwashers. Some have a garbage disposal(its louder), but you can put plates in with some food on them. Other do not have a disposal but a filter(the food just stays traps in the filters till it rots). So it depends on the type of dishwasher. Also some clean better(are designed to remove larger chunks of food), look at the ratings for cleaning. I have found the American dishwashers are better for the nonuniform stuff and dries the plastic lids more completely.

SAHM here who's a short-order cook. DD vegetarian, DH and DSs are carnivores. Lots of plates and utensils and I have to run the dishwasher 2x day. Everything goes in my dishwasher - ice packs, water bottles, mouth guards, pots, pans, baking dishes, microwave plate, stove grates. I hate hand washing dishes.

Family of six. I stay home, so I cook and bake a decent bit. We run it once - every night. I do hand wash some stuff every day or else the dishwasher would be full before dinner.

Family of 4 who all eat 3 meals a day at home. I run it 1-2 times per day. We also have a small old dishwasher

We are also family of 5 and run it every night after dinner. Kids empty it in the morning. We hand wash the big stuff which may use more water than the dishwasher but we've got to get everything put away quickly each night or it's difficult to use the kitchen in the morning.

Family of 3 and we cook from scratch, don't eat out much. We run the dishwasher about 3 times during M-F and then a couple times a day on Saturday and Sunday to catch up, so I guess that averages to once a day or so. We wash pots and pans by hand.

Once a day, sometimes we skip. Key is to wash all big bulky items: mixing bowls, pots, pans, etc
