OP -- To address your questions...these are some Sports that whites tend to gravitate to: field hockey, crew, lacrosse, squash, sailing, and skiing for example.

Someone asked about swimming. I am a white woman who coached swimming for many years in black communities. Since many blacks were precluded from swimming pools, many never did have a chance to learn. There is an black Olympic swimmer whose foundation goes out to try to bring swimming to the black community. Drowning is a real/big concern in the black community today. Some blacks still do seriously fear swimming based upon the historical bars to swimming they faced before integration.

I'm black and I honestly don't want to get my hair wet too much. But it depends on the hairstyle. I have a shorter style that is usually curled, so getting it wet all the time would SUCK. I do my hair to last most of the week. If I went swimming a lot, I would have to wash and curl my hair everyday.

And if I have extensions, it's even worse for maintenance. Constantly wetting the hair and having to wash, dry and curl it would turn into a 1+hour ordeal.

You know that the finals of the sprint races have had Asian and White athletes running at some amazing times, but the focus is always on the Black athletes even when they lose. The media wants to reaffirm that what Blacks do well is run, and only that. They will not remind you that those Asian and White sprinters are some of the BEST and fastest runner in the world. The stereotypes are embedded in what we see.

Why the snark? No...but I'm short (5'2") and really don't like to go in higher than my knees. If I'm waist deep and fall on my sides, I panic and can't "right" myself.
