Children who will enter 1st grade in the Fall can attend DC-ICE. However, you should call for additional info. My son skates in the program during the school year and loves it. He wil be six at the end of this month.

Does anyone have experience with Flint Hill camp for a rising Kindergartener?

My son loved the Lego Robotics camp at Renaissance in Alexandria. The supervision is great and they have an extensive collection of Lego sets, games and of course the Robotics. I like the way that the Lego coaches treat the kids. Most of them are certified teachers or engineering graduate students. They treat the kids with respect and give them alot of attention. It is great for kids that love Lego's.

We have done two weeks at Casa for the last few years and our kids have really liked it. Lots of great art and other activities!

voyagers with sidwell summer (apply by 1/31 and get 100 off each week), Calleva, then overnight camp for a few weeks. Might add Handwork crafty camp in late August as Sidwell has it through 8/23.

We are signed up for Lowell and Sidwell and not sure about last few weeks. Wish we had family with a ranch - this summer is going to be $$$

PP could you expand a little on what had you concerned about the counselors at Barrie?

My boy didn't like Barrie. He went the summer he turned 7. He didn't like the constant change of activities and that they didn't have a home base. My younger (going into K) kid loved it though. Hard to know. I was pretty disturbed by a couple of things that happened with the counselors so I was ok with them not going back. The activities were great but it didn't seem like a safe environment.

Does any one have opinions on Barrie for a 6 year old boy?

My 6 year old daughter has also loved camp at Stone Ridge. She was in the mighty gator 6 year old day camp.....arts and crafts, games, water play, good ole summer fun.

The camp is well organized. The counselors are enthusiastic and nurturing. We have been very happy with this camp experience and would recommend it to other families for next summer.

I thought SR camp was very good also but my son complained that there were very few other boys.

We had a great experience at Head First. Lots of focus on sportsmanship and respect--along with pure fun. Very well run and organized. Frequent requests for feedback from parents.

Had a terrible experience at Beauvoir summer camp on the other hand. Would not recommend it unless you have a compliant, quiet kid who likes to do crafts and play quietly. Counselors did not seem to have enough adult supervision, and they often seemed annoyed or overwhelmed. Don't be fooled by the shiny facilities; the culture of a camp matters more than the playground!
