But frankly, my kids go to private school, and in our free time I'd like them to be in a more diverse environment. Plus, we don't golf. All our friends who joined clubs are golfers. We just join a pool for the summer.

The middle class doesn't have money for any of these options.

All cement and not a lot of shade. The club food is probably the best but it's kind of a scene. Also contains a "men's grill." Chevy is easier to join than it used to be. Lower-key than Columbia but a lot of new money is coming in and it's obvious. There's a recent thread on Chevy costs. You could possibly get summer membership in a year or two, but you need to have good sponsors.
I am a legacy at Columbia and grew up there with the old pools that included an adult only. Let me just say that the new pool sucks. There are screaming children running rampant and its loud and crowded. The "awesome" lap pool that they put inside is never used and was a complete waste of the $11k extra fee assessmed on members for the new wonderful pool.
That being said I do like Columbia and the food is great! I got married there and it was a beautiful evening for a very reasonable price. If I could still get in on legacy member fees I would do it but I am not paying $60k to become a full member. Its also alot of new money and want to be pretentious younger couples with very ill-behaved children who seem oblivious to the world around them.
You really think the food is great? It is terrible!!! But, then again, most club food is bad, but Columbia's is awful. Also, the "lap pool" gets a ton of use in the winter. It is great for kids.

Woodmont is typically where Jewish families belong.

You can not do that. That is not how it works.
Kenwood has this info on its website, although the fees may increased a bit since the info was posted: http://www.kenwoodcc.net/files/Membership%20Application%2009.pdf

Me too. And the exclusionary tone of it all. I cannot imagine being a minority and wanting to join these places.
Because they don't allow members who don't have $100,000 to join?
