Luke is the nickname for Lucas. My Jewish husband’s name is Lucas but he goes by Luke. Lucas feels very little kid to me.

I agree that Lucas is less strongly associated with Christianity than Luke, and might be a better choice for someone who really loves the sound and meaning, but not the history of the name Luke. But the idea that a name that has existed in Christianity for thousands of years and is strongly associated with one of the most famous figures in Christianity is "very little kid" is bizarre and makes you sound very uneducated.
