Our DC attended IT briefly before getting off a waitlist at a closer school. She STILL talks about that PK teacher, even after only a brief time at IT. She really seemed like something special. I'm sorry to hear she's leaving.

Just curious...what "others" are you referring to? Others at all schools or just IT? The teachers do work hard at IT but I have not heard any grumbling about not being "taken care of." Actually, they are almost always smiling (something I did not see at my kid's previous school). Most admit that it's hard work, but that they also enjoy the fact that IT gives them "freedom" in their classroom and room to be creative. While I'm sure you can burn out when you are challenged to work at that level, I don't get the sense that they are unhappy. Tired maybe...but not unhappy.

Not sure I quite understand this 'joke.' Does anyone know why the PreK teacher is actually leaving? Were any reasons given in her letter?

Now the current students have a fair chance with getting a PK4 teacher. I was woried about how they would choice which got the super teacher and which got the new (but probably super) teacher.

So sorry to hear that. Although my children were not in her class, her exceptional teaching abilities were evident to any one who passed by her classroom. I know she worked hard for those children, as did all of the teachers. The program at IT requires an "above and beyond" mentality from its staff. She definitely epitomized that.

My child's in PS, so I don't know her well, but he was in her "intersession" class. She just radiates something special. I'm sure the school will replace her (and get a second PK teacher) who's equally fabulous.

She is compassionate, loves children and they love her, demonstrates the teaching methodology, even tempered, smart, curious, open, works with parents. Just a few qualities, others can add more. A real loss.

It's official, she sent out the email to the class.

It sucks because she is a great teacher. The good news is that they have a great pipeline for great teachers.

We're on the PS3 wait list. Why is this news being taken so hard? Is it because the teacher was really good, or is teacher turnover in general the main concern?
