I'm curious: are you a current YY parent, or do you just know that you have an awesome waitlist #?
Our child is currently at YY, and we're struggling whether to stay there or move to the school that was our first choice last year. I hate to dishonor the hard work my child put in this past year by taking Chinese instruction away--and yet we're considering it, because this other school may be a better fit for his personality.
upper grade YY parent. The school culture (bullying, tattle telling, lying) is not good at this school. I'm not hopeful for the long-term for my child (we're out before MS for sure, maybe sooner). The adminstrators (all have students in the school) are not willing to face the situation, which is why it will not change. Consider this.
Also a YY parent and I don't agree with this characterization. I am under the impression that the upper grades have had a bigger challenge, I'm sure it's tough to be the trailblazers in every regard. Still, we have been extremely happy with the school and are very enthusiastic about the possibility of using it as a launchpad to go for the IB Diploma in the high school. In my experience families are very warm and welcoming, and the classroom experiences have been excellent.
YY seems to attract parents with extremely high expectations, some of whom seem very high maintenance. Have a look for yourself - at YY and at any other school - and use your own impressions. Bear in mind that this board reflects the extremes of any well-known school: those that love it and those that hate it. Self included, of course. GL.
