Despite the Church's teachings about homosexual activity, the overriding choice in this situation -- the poor woman's mother's funeral -- should have been compassion. Sadly the priest did not exhbit compassion. Christ himself forgave and comforted prostitutes, rather than comdemning them. Despise the sin, but love the sinner.

This is not an especially nice thing to say but...that priest looks like one creepy little dude (on the video). Yikes!

I found him on YouTube. He seems to be a relatively young. He is thin and well kept and well spoken, and in the video below he took an extremely hardline stand against abortion last year in Germantown at a rally called “2,000 for Life.”

I think it's a indicator that the way this priest went about this was wrong. And I wonder about why he reacted so irrationally and almost personally to the situation. He really went overboard.

The priest was totally in the wrong. There are many people living in sin in one way or another who are not denied communion. This incident was unbelievably offensive especially because it was her mother's funeral.

Just because she is living with a woman doesn't mean she is having sex outside of marriage. Even if she's an acknowledged homosexual. They could be roommates. They could be in a non sexual relationship. (like a lot of marriages). Sounds to me like the priest has a dirty mind.

No one is talking about bringing in the ACLU and government mandating anything. We are talking about KINDNESS.

When the Catholic church behaves in a way that is unkind, it generates bad PR for them and loses more members.

Ok, pp, I can respect you for that. It does make me wonder how many Catholics who use birth control continue to take communion. Anybody have an idea? And the folks who think it was okay for the priest to refuse this woman, would you be okay with the priest refusing communion to someone who takes birth control? I really would like to know.

A friend of mine had a priest refuse her communion because she is divorced. I thought that was BS. But, if they start refusing everyone who is divorced, on birthcontrol or gay...we'll be short a LOT of communion goers.
