I think it would be so helpful to see his actual test. Don't know if its accessible, but would help answer questions about what happened.

129, 96th percentile. 41/48.

Arrived in mail today.

Also 41/48 but scaled to a 126, 95th percentile (I guess my child is older than yours).
Ugh, I am disappointed with this score. Hopefully DC will score better on the CogAT next year. But it would be nice to know DC was already in the pool based on this year's score.

Interestingly, my kid got 39/48 scaled to 126, 95th percentile. Must be younger!

Mine got 39/48 as well, scaled 123, 92nd percentile. Guess she's older than yours.

It is quite possible that a 1% score with good CogAT's will be ignored. Probably considered something happened in testing.

...and if the child is a potential AAP candidate, a 1% NNAT score would be hard to get past the committee, even with a pool-worthy cogat score. I have a second grader, and the buzz among the moms at our school is that a large number of kids are in the pool with a very high cogat score, even though most of these kids did not have NNAT scores that would have gotten them into the pool. I think it may make a difference if both scores are high.

Because if Happy Well-Adjusted Boy scores a 142 composite on the CogAT in the fall (the CogAT that is administered to all FCPS 2nd grade students), he might be part of the population that FCPS is trying to find for potential giftedness.

Or maybe happy, well-adjusted boy with a NNAT raw score of 10 can just resume his happy life free from additional testing? From the mom's post, doesn't sound like there's a problem. So why not just carry on? Are some of you that fearful that your kid will school with the general population?

Perfect example of why AAP Center eligibility should not be based solely on a test score.

OP, I would request a retest (I believe this happens in the fall) and you may want to meet with the AART at your school later this school year to get advice on how to best proceed. This test score is surely an anomaly.

Or shows the uncertainty in the tests. If a functional kid can score 1% then gifted kid can score 110.

Something's probably up. You'd know if he was a 1st percentile kid. I'll bet he didn't understand the instructions. If you're concerned, you could do other testing (WISC or SB) just to check for problems. If he's doing fine in school, though, I would treat is as an anomoly.

OMG. I'm so sorry!
I feel a little better about my kid's 126/95th percentile now.

Seriously, though, I don't know where you go from here. Wait & see how he does on the CogAT?? I don't think you can get the score removed from his file or anything.

I would guess that he didn't understand what he was supposed to do. You are allowed to request one retest, so you could always have him take it again in 2nd grade.
