I am this lady. It just takes prep work ahead of time and EVERYONE does something. Even the kids. They set the table and wash fruit. But, we always have lots of leftovers and it saves us cooking after shopping on Black FRIDAY!!!!

My DH and I are both from the north, so here goes our menu (I've cut back on dishes this year b/c there are only 6 of us and am a bit nervous):

Crackers and cheese of some sort
Oyster Stew

Roasted turkey with herb paste (you put it under the skin)
Stuffing with corn bread, sausage, chestnuts
Mashed yams and white potatoes
Gravy
Roasted veggies - brussels sprouts, turnips, parsnips, onion, squash, rutabaga

Apple Pie
Pecan Pie

Some sort of fun after dinner cocktail

Hmmm - I may not have enough!

DH and I are both from the South - but this year it is just us (and DD - age 3). I don't like turkey and he can take it or leave it - so we decided to do something completely different this year.

Louisiana gumbo
Cornbread
Pumpkin Pie

Yes, I'm considering making 4 pies for 6 people.

Why not? I usually make 4 pies for four people. This year it's just three of us (one is away), but I will still make 4 pies. 4 seems the right number when it comes to pies.

We're going to my in-laws' this year. My MIL doesn't cook American food, and my SIL is in poor health, so dinner will be ordered. It will just be okay, but it will be worth it to spend time with them - we haven't seen them since last Christmas.

The next weekend, we're having my sister over for a little Thanksgiving feast.

Turkey (a small one)
Cornbread dressing
Biscuits and gravy
Mashed sweet potatoes
Homemade cranberry sauce
A jello salad (either my Midwestern grandmother's pineapple/carrots/lemon jello or my Southern grandmother's cherries/black cherry jello)
Maybe oyster dressing, if I'm feeling ambitious
A green vegetable of some sort

Pumpkin pie
Pecan pie
Chess pie
Maybe an apple pie

Yes, I'm considering making 4 pies for 6 people.

Are you us?

We are having pumpkin pies instead of the sweet potato pie, and apple pie too (because 3 desserts are just, well, necessary). And chocolate cake. Because if 3 is necessary, 4 is better.

And roasted parsnips and carrots, because I love them.
