I hate hypocrite Moms who use their kids' schools as their own personal high school clique by siding against or for the moms who make them (or perhaps their child) feel accepted by the right crowd. It seems completely within reason that parents want to vent that, in general, something working great in this city, such as Deal MS, is mysteriously transformed. It is a wonder that she wouldn't have moved into DCPS Central, or promoted to be a superintendent (they call them "instructional superintendents" now, right?) save for the obvious possibility she wanted out. Money or No Money, look at some of the salaries passed out in the DC Gov't, including former chancellor Rhee's.

Really? Didn't know there was a war between kids and adults and that one needed to take sides. No one deserves to be bullied, adults or children. There is a lot of danger in the "any means to justify the ends" mentality. I definitely want better for my kids and all kids in DC.

It is a legitimate issue to raise (the number of detractors) - too many people have strong feelings in a lot of school communities. DCPS isn't for everyone. But I think the inability of people like PP to suffer through all the ingrates and jerks serves to thin the heard and get rid of those who only like it nice-nice. If you must have it nice-nice then I'll go have brunch on Sunday at your house, and I love your huge yard and the collegial neighbors you chit-chat with, but at the end of the day I want to sleep on a lettered or numbered street in a city. It's just the way I like it. I like people who want to swim upstream. I can't stand namby-pamby liberals and up-tight judgmental conservatives. I like the self-selecting crowd at some DCPS schools. I like their moxie when they respond to people judging their decision to enroll in DCPS. I like how DCPS parents mix it up with black dude dads and nerdy white moms all the same. I like old school DC residents, I like the international crowd, I like bi-racial families, I like gay fathers and lesbian moms. I like ghetto and I like big law. I like the transplants and transients. I like a whole grain bread, not Wonder Bread. And I understand that in a city recovering from dysfunction, with this crazy good mix of people, that it ain't always easy. I got a low EQ and I kind of fumble through it all.

When the PP grouses about detractors, he's right. There are a ton of detractors , and they totally suck. But I don't care, at least right now. There's enough cool dudes to make it worth while. And my kids are doing okay so far. Unless you would like to make a blanket assertion that I am failing them for being in DCPS, in which case I'll just say your right, I am screwing my kid, now please go away. Not because you are hurting my feelings ( I am the smartest guy in the room after all), but because I just don't care.


CORRECTION: your = you're (actually the third smartest guy in the room)

I'm a DCPS parent of more than a decade. I find this "troll" accusation just stupid. It is completely relevant to consider that the somewhat muted applause for the "leadership awards" are a depressing contrast to the real leadership and transformation Kim has put into Deal. How were these "leadership awards" decided? Was Kim up for considerate? I don't for a second believe a talent and confident woman like Kim would stake her career on such trivialities, but "get under the bridge" is aligning yourself with parents who should never question DCPS. We should all question DCPS every single day. And yes, it's an insult that Aguirre would receive a leadership award and an incredible leader of record, as Kim is, is departing before the school year is even half way out. Something is wrong with the DCPS system.
Nobody is saying don't question DCPS. That's the whole point of this forum. But is fair game to call out those who clearly have an old axe to grind about Oyster that has nothing to do with Kim. We get it. Some people really don't like Liang-Aguirre. But it's getting to be like Yu Ying.

What's "stupid" (nice word choice for a parent BTW) is obsessing about an award that is not paid for by DCPS or recognized beyond DC and acting like it's National Merit Scholar. I'm sure Kim could care less.
