I do not have a generator, nor have I been bothered by a neighbor's generator, but it blows my mind that people think just because they bought it, they have a right to use it during sleep hours and make their neighbors' lives hell. I just don't get where the entitlement comes from.

We power up everything but the AC, and sure, it may be loud, but it's a necessity. A Supreme Court Justice lives behind us and he's never bitched.
These are not ordinary times, ask your neighbors to move the generator and if they can't, live with it.

I can't sleep prone without mine and have spent many multiple night power outages "sleeping" in a chair. I finally broke down and got a generator this time.
I'm really sorry if it bothers my neighbors and even sorrier that I'm polluting the air with such an inefficient machine. I hope to upgrade to a quieter natural gas model at some point. But I finally had to make the decision -- I can't function on no sleep after a day or two.
And your neighbors who can't sleep because of your loud generator... how do you think they are functioning on interrupted sleep after a day or two?

In my case, my neighbor's loud, generator is 10 feet from us - it spews gas/fumes into my house and makes an already sleepless night w/ no ac that much more unbearable. In the winter its is less of an issue as the windows stay closed. I definitely think it should be turned off after 10/11 until 7/8 am. it is totally inconsiderate - were they having a party that was loud with smoke spewing smoke into my house you would tell me to call the police - I don't understand the difference.

I agree with this. Yes, I know, I know, PEPCO takes forever. But, your neighbor isn't running the generator 365 days/year. Not having power is a pain in the butt for everyone. I'd let this slide.
