Northwestern is not in Chicago.

It’s in Evanston, which is a quiet, safe suburb on the lake, 20-30 minutes north of Chicago.

Kids at Northwesyern can uber or train in to Chicago for concerts, food, shopping, going out etc. if they want. But there’s plenty to do on campus and in the surrounding suburb if they’d prefer to skip the city.

People listing JMU and VCU and those types of schools, did your child have some sort of grade anomaly? Seems like high 1400’s is a pretty competitive score.

Statistically she would not be admitted to them anyway so that’s a good thing. Plus, the U Chicago app is a pain!

Which is fine! There are so many good schools out there that a factor that limits it (“I don’t like cities”) is actually helpful.

That said - Northwestern seems more suburban than urban, so what does she mean when she says she doesn’t like Chicago. Is it city specific / climate / something else?

With my kids, the things they DON’T like can be as helpful for figuring out fit and schools for the list as the things they do.
