OP is likely not a troll. Her fear is warranted. As Jerry Seinfeld said after Oct. 7, we were so grateful to be in the US, it could never happen here. But here we are. An undeniable undercurrent of hate, as demonstrated by so many of these comments. You may say it’s Israel you hate, but every synagogue has had a police car outside of it for as long as I can remember - decades, and it didn’t matter who was in power in Israel, left or right, and even after it gave complete autonomy to Palestine in 2005. That said, Europe is much worse. My relatives who lived all their lives in the UK (London and Manchester) have now left for Israel as the anti-semitism has become unbearable.

The synagogues that need police protection are because some of them engage in “The Great Israeli Real Estate Event” where they auction off land that belong to Palestinians. Naturally there are going to be protests. No one here has said anything against the Jewish religion, I’m so proud when I see Jewish people engaged in protests against Israel because they are so brave. They are called fake news or worse by their own people, now that’s antisemitic.

This is incorrect and unhinged. Even cursory research will prove you wrong on the attacks that have happened to synagogues. But I’m so glad that you are “proud” of the good Jews who have the right opinions. And the other ones can just be murdered, I suppose

DP. Why would I care what happens to people who support the genocide of innocent children? If you are openly and proudly in favor of what bibi is doing, you deserve all the hate you get.

We send 80 billion dollars to Israel every year. We do not do that for any other country or people. But please tell me how in THIS country the Jews need to be scared.

So if I, as an American Jew with no ties to Israel, loudly state that I am against genocide and hate Netanyahu, you will be against my murder by someone who comes to my synagogue to attack me. But if I do not make this statement, then I’m fair game?

Why would I want any harm to come to an innocent person? I'm not IDF.

I don’t know if you’re the same poster as the one above but that poster specifically said “why would I care what happens to people who support the genocide of innocent children” - so that poster seems uninterested in whether harm comes to a Jew unless the Jew is a good Jew that has condemned Israel. If they haven’t done so, then the poster above doesn’t care what happens to them.

The US gives Israel $3.8 Billion each year.

You're hilarious. 3.8 billion is just military aid. Like everything else, you're a liar and a moron.

That’s it. Aid to Israel is almost exclusively military.

Except, of course, for the emergency supplemental packages we keep passing. Please educate yourself. Or perhaps you already know better and are hell-bent on gaslighting us like the rest of the Israeli propaganda machine.

Hatred of Israel and zionism is NOT the same as hatred of Jews or anti-Semitism.

Provide your facts, or quit your lies.

Antizionism is a hate movement. Jews feel the hate. That is our lived experience. Are you disputing that is what our lived experience is?

I think it’s a shame they one cannot question Bibi without being called antisemitic.

Anonymous wrote:Wait is OP saying Kristof's article itself is antisemitic? That is insane. So no one is allowed to say anything negative about Israel even if it is true? How does that help the cause against antisemitism in general? Or like do you just automatically assume reporting like this is wrong bc you don't want it to be right? Maybe you need to do some self reflection?

SO glad to see so many people don't agree with OP and are expressing the absolute frustration it is to see people conflate criticism of Israel with antisemitism.

Kristoff's article is actually antisemitic.

He timed his publication the day before the massive Civil Commission report on Hamas' use of s3xual violence in their October 7 attack and with the hostages. You can read about that here: https://www.cnn.com/2026/05/12/middleeast/report-sexual-violence-hamas-oct-7-attacks-intl Timing his piece to preempt this report draws a moral equivalency that minimizes the violence done to Israelis by terrorists whose stated objective is the murder of all Jews. He straight-up states that as the objective in the conclusion of his piece: "Think of it this way: The horrific abuse inflicted on Israeli women on Oct. 7 now happens to Palestinians day after day." That's Kristof saying the quiet part out loud: equivalency in order to minimize Israeli trauma and excuse Hamas' terrorism. There should absolutely be accountability in Israel's prison system, but the abuses parallel issues in the US prison system and most other prison systems around the world; it's a systemic human problem that we all need to do better to address. I hope Bibi and his far-right ministers are voted out in the next election and that some real reforms are implemented in Israel.

85,000 dead Palestinians, most of whom were innocent civilians and children. Sorry, that's an inconvenient truth to you.

It is inherent to the nature of tyrannical regimes that they operate on some kind of leveraged vengeance scheme. Not uncommon for it to be 3-5 orders of magnitude. "Harm 1 of ours and we will harm 10,000 of yours."

The democratically elected Prime Minister of a coalition government is now tyrannical? You might not like him (I know I don’t like ours), but Israel is a democracy with a Knesset of which 20% are Arab Israelis. Hamas, on the other hand, was democratically elected in 2007 on a plain mandate of the destruction of Israel. They proceeded to murder their political opponents of the Palestinian Authority and have held uncontested power for 20 years.

No sane or reasonable person is arguing for Hamas. They are vile monsters.

But I guess people expected better of Israel. And after all the death in recent years, how does anyone conclude Israelis are the good guys?

These are serious things. All the killing in Gaza. Tens of thousands of dead children and women who had nothing to do with anything. The fanatics colonizing the West Bank. Invading Lebanon. Starting a war with Iran, and dragging the US into it.

That should have no bearing on a Jewish kid growing up in America. Like 9/11 shouldn't have had an impact on a Muslim kid growing up in America.

But the thing is if Israel is the Jewish state and they are making these choices, well, Jews everywhere are going to be asked to explain what's up with all this violence and death. Like Muslims had to deal with after 9/11. Why y'all so violent?

That's only $380 per person. They need our help. If Israel wasn't stabilizing the region, we'd have much more expensive problems than that. Like another 9/11.

Like what? We could be dragged into a world conflict or wreck the world's economy, killing hundreds of thousands of people. Oh wait, seems like Israel is already doing that and we are more than happy to foot the bill.

Calling out soldiers and agents of the state is not antisemitism and you do everyone a disservice by trying to equate the two. That seems to be a big reason that the younger generation is moving away from support for Israel - the inability to criticize a state’s actions without being told they are antisemitic. Like you, I’m concerned about how this is all going to play out.

I don't think people are having trouble distinguishing anything. I think for convenience of certain interests they have been been conflated. And it's far from an accident.

And the irony of all of it -- many Jews in the US wonder if Israel is the only place for them to be safe. Jews who never felt a connection with Israel, speak no Hebrew, have never left the U.S. It's like we are scared to be anywhere else.

I *wish* there was a difference but the NYT article proves that there isn't -- it is all motivated by hatred for a population that is less than 0.2% of the world. It is so silly. We are just trying to keep our babies safe.

How easily did you believe the NYT and other outlets about Palestinians beheading of 40 babies and burning others in ovens? Did you believe you and other believers were motivated by hatred against the Palestinian people that made you an immediate believer?

No one believes that anymore. It was proven false. The Israeli government doesn’t even say it anymore. It was hysteria after the way people were murdered by the Palestinians on October 7th. There were many beheadings, just not babies. Those are well documented by the Palestinians themselves on their GoPro footage and in the report that just came out on the October 7th atrocities committed by the Palestinians.
