Just comparing from our little bubble of a big club and our friends and classmates playing at smaller clubs, and the kids on the 6th team of a big club would make a middle team at a small 3-team club. Usually the big club’s 3rd or 4th teams plays the small club’s first team. You can see that in all the NCSL divisions.

Honest advice, read the thread before blabbing. Her kid was on the 3rd team out of 6 this year.

He's U10 this year and moving to U11 for the upcoming year. He is a July birthday so certainly one of the youngest on the new U11 teams. Due to that, we were prepared to drop 1 level, possibly even 2, but dropping 3 levels was really unexpected. The thing that bothers us the most though is the communication - if he's dropped 3 teams and you have a chat with us about why, no problem. But when you tell us nothing, and don't reply when we reach out, that is really frustrating.


I’m PP. Absolutely agree with you on the communication. This year has been really weird. Hopefully, you can tell DS that the age groupings were a large part of going down three teams. I’ve only heard of kids going down 1 so far at our six-team club, but I’m sure there will be some that go down more than one. The numbers may have just not worked in your favor at the goalie position.

Sorry if I missed this, but were you staying on age or moving down an age group? Staying on age could account for 1-2 teams right there if better kids are moving into your age group. Still sucks though!

Ya, we always go to two tryouts, unless we have a pre-season offer. My kid is almost always on the verge of being cut from the top team, or so it feels.


That is good self realization. Two families have been cut this year... it sucks, but when you look back, they were never started and always relief subs at 10 min per half. If that is your kid, you should consider it a possibility you could be cut next year and should go to other tryouts.

Yep, he's done keeper training with them once a week for the past 2 years. They also know he's doing 1 on 1 training with a professional goalie


Is this training paying off? Programs want to win!!! Maybe this isn’t his calling card?

It is unreal that these jacka$$es don’t have the decency to give kids enough notice so that they have a chance to tryout elsewhere. Hell, NFL teams will cut PROFESSIONALS early so they can get a shot at landing in another team’s camp before rosters are finalized. What the hell are we doing?

This all sounds very strange. I’m really surprised they would need to move a keeper down 3 teams at this age. Did a bunch of keepers move down to his age group after the age change? Was there conflict between your family and the coach (no need to answer but it sure does seem like they are trying to get your family to leave).

Would be nice to get some feedback from the keeper coach your child has trained with.

I hate to speculate but if this is Vienna - BTDT with two different kids. But I know it happens at all clubs.

Goalie is a specific case and it can be hard to find a team sometimes - but I'm shocked they would need to move him down 3 teams.
