lmfao ... with an admit rate of 9%, no bottom student whose father is not POTUS is getting into NYU
The 9% is inflated. Things are much easier if you do ED.
PP is a fool and doesn't understand math.
NYU's ED rate is still 38%. When NYU can reject 62% of ED applicants, why in the world would it take anyone who is at the bottom of his class? Just do the math.
A bottom quarter full-pay kid in a very elite private is regarded as more qualified than an above average kid in a mediocre high school.
"Above average in a mediocre high school" is still not in top 38%.
The average NYU application pool is mediocre. The clear rejects are the bottom kids from mediocre high schools!

This doesn't generally (or ever) work at the Ivies or top 30s (even with the very top kids) but schools like Wesleyan will totally take a kid based on the family knowing a board member or similar. I see it happen every year (kid 3 is a senior). Once you're out of the top 20-30 schools, "who you know" can mean A LOT.
Yes, this happens at EVERY elite college/university. That’s not what OP is asking about.
No, it doesn't happen at the top schools because they don't care and don't bend to much. The schools that kids from the bottom of the class apply to DO bend to phone calls etc. And so the results for bottom-of-the-class kids can be quite distorded from a top private. You can have an unconnected bottom kid headed to a school ranked 150 while a connected kid will pull out a top75 school because someone made a call. There is a lot more distortion in these lower level kid acceptances.

Would they be able to pull a decent test score? 1500+, a different story. Someone suggested ED Chicago, but it may still a reach if they are truly bottom of the class.
I am a Chicago alum. For full play, with customized ECs & summer activities, and well placed CC outreach, Chicago ED000 (starts 12-24 months prior to ED0 submission) is doable. Not a troll. It has been going on for a while and actively encouraged by Chicago.
You are very obviously a troll. ED000 does not exist. My kid at UChicago works in the admissions office there.
