It doesn't sound like they are actually bothering or interacting with you, so maybe you could just try not to eavesdrop and ignore them? I admit I'm guilty of wearing Potomac gear on occasion if any of my kids have a sports or robotics or debate competition that day, but I definitely don't mean to be offensive. Instead, I am happy that my kids are proud of their school and the effort they're putting in at interscholastic things, so I'd like to support them. It never crossed my mind that it would irritate someone while I'm out running errands.
I can't say it sounds like you will be missed by not applying. I'd also guess it's much more of an upbeat and supportive place than you would be happy at.

Anonymous wrote:It's interesting, when you look at their history, the school was originally much more focused on early childhood and that philosophy. It feels like as they’ve expanded into a full K–12, the identity has gotten a bit broader and possibly a little lost... which might be part of why the parent culture reads differently than some of the more tightly defined DC schools.

Potomac is kind of like
Congressional cc was 30 years ago.
For someone in their 30s who wasn't aware at the time... what do you mean?
Congressional was the new money club in the area. Looked down upon by the members of Chevy Chase and Columbia. Now, Congressional is seen as a top club. Potomac was not a tough school to get into back then. Sidwell (once Chelsea went there) and the Cathedral schools were the places to be if you cared about that stuff.

Anonymous wrote:OP back - I’m not talking about wearing school clothes at sporting events. I’m talking about wearing the clothes everywhere out and about in McLean. But really it’s the constantly talking about Potomac - like I said it has happened many times that I’m across the playground or on the other side of a restaurant and I hear Potomac Potomac Potomac.
I know some very nice down to earth Potomac parents who don’t do this but there seems to be a sizable number who do and they are annoying.
Now let’s let this thread die so it doesn’t get meaner! I’ve made my point and so have the defenders.

Isn’t it the only school in McLean?
There is Madeira, Langley, McLean, and Basis. Potomac is usually ranked after Basis and Madiera, but ahead of McLean and Langley
You're full of it.
McLean and Langley are public schools, they're not ranked with private schools.
