Is there truth to this and did it come up in the public meeting? That option would be terrible for our neighborhood- we are walking sitance to Sligo but kids would be sent to SSIMS- I don't know why that was thrown out there as a potential option to begin with. So overall I was ok with Taylor's recommendation as it relates to our neighborhood. It's just hard to keep up with the changes and to anticipate what MCPS will throw out there next. The options for our neighborhood changed pretty drastically from the first to second round and caught a lot of people off guard.
There is some push for original Option B with regard to the now Current WJ cluster (sounds mainly like the Farmland/Luxmanor crew at the BOE mtg), not necessarily rest of map (but clearly would send WW back to Wheaton High).

I heard the one mom testify about whether she should let her son take a language other than the top two. I would not. It is doubtful they will offer that other language, at least in the beginning, at Woodward. They’ll say he can switch languages. No guarantees he would get into WJ for their humanities program (every Woodward will apply).

My bet: a WJ zoned geezer trying to perfectly time his property sale before departing for Florida. For WJ property value maximization it is not enough to have strong WJ HS. It also needs weak neighboring schools.
Says the Farmland guy whenever there is any differing view.
Anyone know the admissions process for Charles E Smith? It's about to get real popular.

That will be interesting to see if many Farmland families go private for HS once the changes take effect. Many can certainly afford CESJDS

If this was reverse, and WJ was getting more FARMS kids, you know the elementary school parents at Ashburton, Wyngate, and KP would be doing the exact same thing as the Farmland and Luxmanor parents.
That is called prejudice. Own it
Yup - and why isn’t WJ getting any higher FARMS kids?

Opening Woodward at 91% puts them right in the same boat VERY quickly. MCPS plays this little game by only looking at actually approved new developments, while ignoring all the development we all know is coming.
In my opinion, MCPS was catering to Wheaton over the utilization issue over Woodward. But that’s not what all the analysis and numbers pointed to - that’s why we hire unbiased consultants.
It will be interesting to see what they bring back to the BOE, if we get to see that.
I also listened to the tape and didn’t hear any parents saying anything bad about FARMs students. They really didn’t deserve the criticism they received and I don’t that is appropriate commentary from a board member. That type of public criticism can dissuade the public from exercising their first amendment rights.

$50k/year/kid for high school? I don't think that "many" there can do that comfortably.
There are some extremely wealthy enclaves in the Farmland/Luxmanor area (esp. Luxmanor). Many in the general county most certainly could not afford that price.
Not as extremely wealthy as the enclave that Taylor lives in.
