I'm pretty sure that few of us could name the men who compete, but most of us know who Simone Biles is.
Also, Mary Lou Retton. Shannon Miller. etc.
A lot has been said lately about the "Miracle on Ice." I remember where I was and the excitement when the team won. So, of course the men had more hype.
This is not an either/or situation.
We watch both in our house.

iTS NOT ABOUT VIEWERSHIP. POTUS did not congratulate the womens team - by phone or by social media- but did congratulate the mens through phone and social media. And on top of it made an off "joke" about how he would have to invite the women as if they didnt earn it, didnt deserve it, and only because of "fairness" would he have to invite them while also elbowing in a jokey manner that the mens achievement is the real victory.
FFS.
Patel phoned Trump from the locker room--Trump did not call them.
He made the ugly little joke all by himself. And Sotu is different than than your run-of-the-mill athlete trip to the White House. SOTU guests are invited for a political optics.

Inviting Kash Patel out of all people into the locker room to celebrate with them was obviously intensely political and divisive in 2026. Chuckling along with Trump as he diminishes and mocks the US women's team is intensely political and divisive. Going to the State of the Union to support Trump is intensely political and divisive.
If the US Men's hockey team wants to embrace MAGA that is their right. But in a single 24 hour period they ruined what should have been a great national moment. I'm sure they are feeling like idiots today. But US Hockey should have known better than to make everything about MAGA politics. They lost an enormous amount of fans - and respect - with their politics
I doubt it. They had an entire day to make amends and yet…silence. Eff em!

MAGA can shut up forever about “protecting girls”. You don’t give a crap about them, and it shows.

Shame on them! Why did they work so hard to win, only to act like losers?
Three cheers for the women’s team, who truly won the day!
Again, no one watches women’s hockey, even women. Check the ratings.
The viewership of Men’s hockey is going to nosedive because of this. We used to go to several caps games a season and had season tickets for several years. I’ll never go again unless players or the NHL get the courage to make a statement.

Its like letting Hitler get away with Jewish jokes.
But this is hockey. Its pretty much a MAGA sport now. I'll admit this even though I grew up in an area where hockey was big.

I suspect more MAGA watched the women's hockey game than your friends.
