My kid loved CMC after a visit but was rejected this year ED. Keep in mind that its a tough admit, especially if you're not an athlete since they only have about 350 slots for the entire class and a third or so are athletes. It was a hard rejection since they did an interview and a video on top of all of the application essays.

As is the case with most things in this country, money = power and with that comes prestige. Having said that, Pomona is the richest, so I would say that it is most prestigious. Interestingly, the schools all share the sports teams but they are split so Pomona and Pitzer share teams and CMC, HM and Scripps share the other team. I have 2 relatives who play on the P-P Sagehens and they have enjoyed their time there. One was a recruit and the coach encouraged them to apply to Pitzer since it was the easier admit but this hasn't led to any remorse despite initially being more interested in Pomona.

DP. With that logic a majority of top-ranked US Schools - no one has heard about. UCLA and USC have more exposure than Berkeley. Purdue Engineering has more exposure than Georgia Tech.

The goal is who do you care about that has heard of it? HM and Pomona are statistically PHD mills. CMC has a Cal reputation but no one I know has met a Grad from there.

I'm not sure about: Pitzer and Scripps. If I saw that on a resume - I'm leaning to they are smart because of CC.

We highly regard JMU and VA Tech as high but people in Cal that might be meh. For people in VA - Cal Poly might be meh. It's where you want to go. Don't get a Cal Poly degree and see if VA people will be impressed.

Any college that inspires/caters to “opposite opinions” is doing its job. I really like that there are differing perspectives, stereotypes, and areas of expertise across the five schools.

Aloof, erudite, arrogant students, nerdy engineers, Econ bros, lesbians, tech fodder and friendly Californians all mixing across a sunny, extended campus that focuses on undergraduate teaching and has great food. Seriously people, what is not to love? Don’t really want your kid’s college experience to be four more years of high school?

Pomona hosts more parties than CMC. My daughter actually has the opposite opinion and finds the pre professional culture of CMC makes them rather arrogant.

They seem nice enough, but far too expensive for what they provide. You get more famous and better paid faculty 20 minutes away at UC Riverside tbh.

They seem nice enough, but far too expensive for what they provide. You get more famous and better paid faculty 20 minutes away at UC Riverside tbh.

The difference is that Riverside the faculty are really there to do research and write and use the resources of the university and teach grad students as a side responsibility of the job. At the 5C’s they are solely focused on undergraduate education and building relationships with students.
