They survive in Canada all winter long. They will adapt.

It really varies. Particularly harsh winters mean first, more calories needed and second, more difficulty getting calories--deep snow, ice crust on snow, etc, and if it extends too far into what would be spring they certainly can die. But even what the region is dealing with now isn't going to be like that. State wildlife agencies monitor conditions and in some cases take steps to help deer populations survive.

I'm posting from a northern state. We had a recent extended deep cold snap. I have raspberries I planted two years ago. There were a lot of canes after their leave dropped, but after the cold snap I realized that the rabbits had devoured them, and the few canes standing above the snow are striped bare of bark. Apparently I will need to look at rabbit fence for them this summer. Sucks because the canes fruit in the second year.

It's illegal in my county to feed wild animals, but they are trying to avoid people who set up feeding troughs or bait them.

It's not about a deer getting into your bird feeder or a racoon checking out your trash.

Coyotes are going to become less shy because we aren't threats. In fact, our trashcans and dumpsters are a source of food. Expect them to become bolder.

There was a temporary ban due to some mystery virus a few years ago. Again, it was temporary. There's no current ban AFAIK.
