I think it is high. Many instate kids decline. My kid and many of their friends will decline.

Not an overachiever, but has a very strong work ethic and is dedicated to their craft. Several clubs and honors societies, a one year-long sport, and works for their father's small business. Not a URM. Just a great kid with a vision of who they want to be and articulated it well in their essays. So proud.

Truly did not think she would be accepted at UMD so aside from a drive through of campus, which we all liked, have not done a ton of research on the school. We definitely need to visit and she has a tough decision to make!

Anonymous wrote:My son was just admitted through Fresman Connection to Spring 2027 even though he applied to Fall 2026. He applied to Econ. Is there any downside about attending UMD via this route? Was the decision a reflection of high demand for Econ for fall admission?

This was my child a few years ago. It would mean you are admitted for the spring semester. You can attend evening classes in the fall and live on campus if you want to, or you can just wait and come in the spring. My child declined but a few of her friends went that route. The cynical take is that these are students UMD wants, but it admits them in the spring so their stats don’t count for UMD rankings.
