She doesn't want south or conservative. in DCUM parlance, we're very woke. She has good academics but USC is a tough admit. a place like Syracuse would be a safety, possibly with merit. She has Michigan and Wisconsin and some UCs on her list. Cornell is possible, but she wants to study business and she won't get into Dyson. She'd get into Tulane, but is put off by male/female lopsided nature. We'll look at Indiana. I tried to talk her into BC but we toured and she's not down for Catholic. (we're also not white and it seemed very white on tour).

How is USC a tough admit while Cornell is possible? This doesn't make sense.
Anonymous wrote:For good privates look at Bucknell and Holy Cross. HC has a business major and top producer for Corporate C Suite jobs. Lots of sports and parties. At Bucknell more remote but they have Greek life. Both better than large state flagships.

ACC is second tier for sports. If SEC isn’t an option I’d look at BIG TEN Oregon and Washington for top sports and WOKE coast.
ACC may be second tier but it’s still plenty fun!
For most kids who are into school spirit and watching sports, the key is whether a big (big enough) cohort of kids at the school share their interest in football/basketball/hockey/soccer/lacrosse etc. and actually show up to games.
Plenty of ACC schools (possibly all??) fit that profile, including many that are far from national champion contenders. Thinking of Pitt, in particular here ….

How about Vandy although a harder admit than either of the USCs. Nashville is more mid-south than true south and more liberal than TN (with Vandy more liberal than Nashville as a whole). Tons of fun. Great academics. Rapidly improving sports. No shortage of party opportunities.
She said “no South.” Agree that Nashville is as blue as they come but NYC types who insist on No South imagine that every single resident is MTG or Marsha Blackburn. Plus, they’ll face barriers to all the many abortions they’re anticipating in college

Depends on your HS. USC is very tough admit from our high school - like basically impossible - unless you have a drama portfolio. Cornell will take kids into the high 3.8s from our HS is test scores are good

Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Washington. Also Maryland and UVA? Or are they in the "South"?
well this is bullshit. there are plenty of sporty schools that aren't in the south.
Just name them? Sporty like University of South California?
Cal, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Northwestern, Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan State, ND, Oregon, Washington, UC Boulder, Syracuse ..
Miami is way less Southern than Bloomington in every respect that matters.Anonymous wrote:OP stated explicitly the student doesn’t want the south…Anonymous wrote:How has nobody mentioned Miami for a kid who has USC as a dream and Syracuse as a safety?
