But with a newborn at home? That’s different.

+1.

OP I see that you're planning to talk to your pediatrician and I think that is a good plan. Personally I'd be inclined to give this whole trip a pass and be upfront with your family why. There will be plenty of opportunities for your kids to get together with their cousins once you're past the newborn phase.

But enough whackos and disinformation that we will lose the herd immunity we worked so hard for as a society. Our ancestors would be dismayed.

This.
Being unvaccinated is not contagious condition.
OP, you understand how vaccines work? The ones who are vaccinated are immune. The ones who are not can catch the virus and are unable to fight it off.

Your vaccinated child can be around measle-y kids and will not get measles.
The unvaccinated cousins are not sickened by a virus - yet.

If your 2 month old is out and about in the world, that 2 month old is being exposed to all sorts of viruses and building up standard immunities. The only thing you need to worry about with your family is their kids getting sick with measles, mumps, rubella, any and all poxes, are contagious and spending that contagious time indoors with your unvaccinated child. Meaning, either they are already sick and bringing it with them to the rental or they catch one of those illnesses during the rental time.
Those who are vaccinated will not get sick under those conditions.

This is categorically FALSE. Do YOU know how vaccines work? You can get vaccinated and still get the virus just at a lower illness level and still pass it to others.

If the two year old goes to spend close proximity time with unvaccinated cousins, you should have a plan to quarantine that kid away from you and vulnerable baby sibling upon return.

You have zero idea how vaccines work.

You are being ridiculous OP. And if I were your IL's family I would be hating on you so hard.

Not OP and no I do not. This is why I choose providers who do not see unvaccinated children. This is why I send my child to a school that requires vaccinations. This is why I dont have playdates with people who are open about not vaccinating. I act on the information I do have. Being shunned is no fun, I know, but it is the consequence for your dumb actions.

Likewise, I don't send my kids to people's homes who have guns (or rather guns that are not safely locked up---I do have a few friends who are hunters), and if I routinely see you drink 3 glasses of wine while at dinner and then drive yourself/family home, well my kid is never riding in a car with you (or going out to anything in the evening where you might be driving).
If you choose not to believe science and not vax, well then you shouldn't need a pediatrician for medical services since you apparently don't believe in science.
But yeah, I'm not sending my kid to a house where others are not vaccinated.

A 2 year old is not "fully vaxed". They only have the first MMR and Varicella for example. They still have several more shots to go for several vaccines to be "fully vaxed" and the 2 month old has only had a few shots by that age. Vaccines work thru herd immunity, and I'd prefer not to give my toddler or 2 month old Whooping cough or measles if I can easily avoid it (hint: you can)

Nope (DP, but result is the same). I wouldn't expose my kids to idiots like that, no matter which side of the family it is

Anonymous wrote:Why wouldn't b your 2 month old be vaccinated?.

Obviously not for measles but they should be getting their first round of vaccines.

Also following the reasoning here you and yours should never ever leave the house.

And the first round of shots does not provide FULL immunity. I would not risk getting Measles, Whooping Cough, etc by exposing a 2 month old to a known group of people who are not vaccinated BY CHOICE. They have their choice, you have yours, and you can smartly make the choice to protect your baby and toddler.
