They have a long term sub for geometry who FELL ASLEEP during class today!!

Some kids can’t help it if their parents decide to visit Grandma early. And making stuff up after winter break is annoying for students and teachers. I will be at school and we will do stuff but it will be a light couple of days because I know many students will be out.
While full days typically get more done then half days for obvious reasons, the half days in PG are in lieu of full NON-STUDENT days that are in a bunch of other counties including Montgomery. They are not in lieu of full days but just for the end of marking periods.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:My high school is missing school so we can get on the road earlier to see family, and return earlier, and actually have some rest this break.
They talked to all their teachers and will make up one test when they return, apparently along with half the class.
They filled out the form and got most teachers to sign it but didn't get all signatures (though they know) so didn't submit it. Doesn't seem to matter because it's still unexcused. No warning yet for absences, but I expect one in January. Oh well!
You can ignore any warnings. It is literally no big deal
Any year when Christmas falls on Thursday or Friday, possibly even Saturday under Maryland law (which requires makeup days if school is canceled from bad weather), there is going to be issues before the break due to the fact that the schools have to sacrifice part of the break to avoid ending even later in June. Those nearby counties in Virginia have it a lot easier because Virginia law is FAR less strict. Some counties like Frederick and Prince George have managed a two week break despite the same Maryland law but have fewer religious days off; PG has short days after every quarter not a full day off for students and Frederick starts 4 days earlier.
A full day is far better for students and school staff.
