Not this again. You are not saying UVA is as good as UM, I hope.
DP here. No clue but I do know someone who attends Michigan who was denied UVA instate, but she applied RD to UVA.

Sometimes kids don’t get into their flagship and they get into comparable flagships. Because California has such a wonky system, kids sometimes get rejected from UCLA & Berkeley and still get into Michigan. I assume the same happens in Virginia, especially in DC suburbs.

But I wouldn’t a kid OOS UofM to Michigan for nursing or education major.
I’d agree that the top programs at UMich are really good. Some departments don’t care about undergraduates, and for your tuition dollars go elsewhere.

Please tell that to my DS who graduated from UMich in December 2024 with a degree in physics at a 320K OOS price tag, and he is still jobless.

Again not true. Personally know two kids OOS that got good FA in LSA. But they were really top students and both in honors. And brought the costs down to make it comparable full price to their in-state or merit fromSLAC. To the ‘right’ student they will.

Anonymous wrote:You have to compare the cost of Michigan to another school. In PA, Penn State is about 40 a year. So, is Michigan with 200-250 extra?
For our family that is a lot of money. For others it isn’t a big deal. They have 4 cars, a country club membership and a beach house so paying that extra 250 isn’t a big deal and is probably worth it.
