As litigious as DCUM is, MCPS is unlikely to have students come in the shovel. Staff slipping on ice is already a workman’s comp issue.


Not really a lawsuit issue, though. If you look at the slip and fall lawsuits against MCPS, they're not snow/ice related.

A couple people here spread an absurd level of FUD about the "dangers" of snow.


However, students wouldn’t be eligible for workman’s comp the way staff are. Their parents would have to file slip and fall lawsuits. MCPS isn’t going to chance it when they could just do a two hour delay.


Anyone can file a baseless lawsuit. But they don't, since they'll lose. This is reflected in the lack of snow-related slip and fall lawsuits.

I'm sorry you struggle with walking and driving, but that's your problem, not the district's. If your child has a disability, as opposed to being careless, you can have transportation added to an IEP or 504 plan.


I’m sorry you’ll have to spend two extra hours with your children tomorrow.

MCPS pays more attention to Frederick, PG, and Howard decisions.


Smart considering how many teachers live in those counties and need the roads to be safe to commute or they will just call out.
