OP here with another update.

The victim gave the hitter a few days, and they never owned up. So she filed a police report, then confronted the hitter for seeing her, and then still driving off.

Hopefully she learns her lesson. It's ok that mistakes happen. We all do them. But when you don't own up to them or your mistakes... it's going to be worse for you.

"The gym" is a community of sorts, and though we may have never spoken, you're always going to see people again - we're all (or most of us) are there to better ourselves. Running away is never going to solve your problems.

Insurance is part of the cost of owning a car. You don't need comprehensive or collision, but liability is a must. If you put gas in your car, you insure your car.

Or, feel free to pay out of pocket when you damage someone else's car. Those are the cards you play when getting on the road.
